Fairy Cakes and Five...

Youngest daughter turned 5 today!  What a wonderful blessing she has been to this family.  She is pink with sparkles.  Our only "girly girl".

My husband and I thought we were done having children after middle daughter, our third child.  Middle daughter was 6, when we found out I was expecting again.  What a shock!  Neither my husband nor I were without trepidation, but as time went on, we became very excited.

I was especially terrified of labor.  My labor with middle daughter had been horrific, and I didn't know if I could do that again.  I prayed, and prayed, and prayed.  God gave me peace and strength to face what was before me, and he gave me wonderful, knowledgeable midwifes (and my midwife-in-training, Eldest Daughter).  I tried something new (to me anyway) and labored in water.  What an incredible difference.  My labor with youngest daughter was gentle, quiet and quick - truly a gift from God.  Youngest daughter was born in our bathroom, with my husband, my mother, our daughter and our midwifes present.  What a blessed day.

Today, we celebrated youngest daughter's fifth birthday.  She requested Chocolate Fairy Cakes with pink frosting.    We had neighbor children over, sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed a sunny afternoon.

All of the neighbor children brought presents, but they were perfect presents...nothing that they bought!  One friend brought doll furniture that she had made out of scraps of wood from her dad's wood shop.

One friend brought bright red cowgirl boots that she had outgrown...

And even the neighbor boys brought books and trinkets.  It was a wonderful, fun time!

Happy Birthday youngest daughter, our dear gift from God.
