The "Bucket List"
Our eldest daughter just found an exciting new skill set. She, without knowing the contents, can shake a bucket, and tell you what is in it! Yesterday, as she was helping me catalog our food stores, she would shake a bucket then look at the label and say, no, that isn't popcorn, I think it's wheat. And sure enough, she was always right. I'm just waiting for the day when she can shake a can of food with no label and tell me whether it is beef stew or clam chowder! One question we have tackled recently is what can you fit into a four gallon bucket? We have found, that for the most part, you can fit 25# of almost any beans, wheat, sugar and things of that density tidily into a four gallon bucket. Something lighter in texture like thick cut oats, will take a little more room - and did you know that if you ordered one pound of chives that it will fill a four gallon bucket? - No really, I speak from experience.
Going into the buckets...
A full bucket...
Isn't wheat beautiful...
You can also fit 12 pair of military socks in a four gallon pail. About 50 bars of soap. 10 two packs of underwear, 6 packages of t-shirts, 15 cans of bag balm, 25 tubes of toothpaste (with a number of bags of Plackers stuffed here and there). Amazing - who would have thought those buckets could be so handy!
Full of socks....
And soap...
This morning's work...
I was mentioning to my husband that our "bucket list" probably looked very different than most peoples. Rather than a list of things we wanted to do before we "kicked the bucket", we have a list of buckets because we don't want to "kick the bucket". I think I like our "Bucket List" better.
I was wondering if you would be willing to share your bucket list with us. This last year I have began to store food and supplies, but get overwhelmed at what I should store and would LOVE expert advice on what we should be storing! thanks
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I too fill buckets so I wont "kick the bucket". I have been browsing your articles and find your site most helpful! You are a true lamp stand in the dark for many. I already hear our Lord saying 'Well done good and faithful servant" Thanks for all your wonderful in sight!
