Dead men walking

I watch in awe at the physical manifestation of the feral nature of our society.  London burning.  Israel erupting.  Egypt undone.  Flash mobs wreaking havoc the world over.  The collapse of society as we know it transcends race, regional and cultural influences.  We can't point a finger at untenable living conditions, natural disasters or any other external pressure point.  Somehow, the current frenzy of unrestrained mayhem being wrought in our cities seems to be overflowing from within the people themselves.

As I pondered the causes of our societal breakdown, it occurred to me that our current situation is the natural progression of unrepentant man.  Mobs, riots, looting and other forms of civil disorder are not caused by economic disadvantage, race disparity or even social unequality, they are caused by a sinful heart.

We are now in a post-christian age.  We have liberated ourselves from the bondage of absolute truth.  We have thrust off the shackles of basic Christian tenets.  And in the process, we have lost all that was good in us.  Gone are the days when we valued qualities such as integrity, honesty, and humility.  Once we put others before ourselves, now self-gratifaction is paramount.  Society used to be restrained by self-governed individuals, now it peopled with dead men walking.

Dead men walking, you ask?  What could you possible mean by that?  The reality is that it is impossible to expect unrepentant sinners to make any good decision.  Why?  Because they are dead in their sins.  We are expecting the impossible!  We are expecting dead men to act rightly, to take care of their fellow man and respect other peoples property.  God says "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins..." (Eph. 2:1).  His children are alive! We can live according to His good will.  Those that are dead cannot.

Our world cannot be fixed by government intervention, social justice or redistribution of wealth.  Only, when we confess our sins, repent and bow our knee to the King of Kings can we hope to restore what we have lost.

As you watch your world bleed, pray for the people.  Pray for the walking dead who live without hope.  Pray for strength and a resolute, immovable faith.  As you drop to your knees, know that we do not battle against flesh and blood, but against powers and principalities.  Oh, to be a people that fears the Lord.

  2. Enola, you said a mouth full! You are soooo right! I've had this feeling for a long time now, but you put it into words! Thank you!

  3. Two major fails caused this problem. 1)England decided a few decades ago to throw open the gates and let anyone in. Millions immigrated but did not want to be English. They wanted the goodies the English provided them but they wanted to live their lives as their ancestors did. The result is they never fit in they never were able to assimilate and they were unemployable. They were and will always be the enemy within.
    2)The English authorities do not want to enforce the law. They will grudgingly haul a thug or criminal off to jail if they must but in general they prefer to smooth things over. In fact if a mugger attacks you in England and you happen to be fit and kick his butt YOU will likely be hauled off to jail. This caused them to under react when the thugs began rioting and this caused the thugs to be encouraged and amp up the violence. If they had deployed 16,000 police on day one rather then waiting until the third day there would not have been three or four days of rioting. You cannot meet violence with indifference.

  5. While I agree with the two points made by Anonymous 8:27am, I am more in agreement with Enola's point - we need to be committed to God, not to government. A Jesus-driven life promotes personal responsibility and respect for others. A government-driven life promotes selfishness and wanton disregard for others.

    We live in a society that is largely government-driven today, so we can expect this type of violent behavior to expand. When/if we return to our Judeo-Christian roots, we will be a happier, safer, and more respectful society. The 10 Commandments would be a good place to start. Let's get them back into our classrooms, courtrooms, and government buildings.

  7. Absolute Truth and basic Christian tenets are being cannibalized by the "Emerging Church" which is the apostate church of the Bible. A long-time pastor of mine admitted (after much prodding by me) that he thinks Christianity practices "exclusivity".... saying that for him, Jesus is the Way to God, but he doesn't believe we should tell other faiths that He is the ONLY way. I was flabbergasted!

    He couldn't answer me when I quoted Matthew 7:13-14..."Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

    Needless to say, my wife and I will be looking for a new church; one that honors the Bible as the Word of the One True God, and Jesus as THE way, THE truth and THE life.

    People, pray and strengthen your faith. You're going to need to know what you believe and why! The battle is coming!

  10. Our country IS a revision of Sodom and Gomora now. Our government wants and is promoting a Godless society!
    God, Master of the Universe, Help us! We are NOW in our time of need for your Son, Jesus, Our Messiah, to protect us and keep us spirit-filled and righteous and our souls and will strong against deception and evil doers.
    We beseech you, we are your faithful, your anointed, to deliver us from this evil.
    For thine is the Kingdom, The only Power, The Glory, is all Yours!
    Amen.

  11. Why do the nations conspire
    and the peoples plot in vain?
    The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,
    “Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.”
    The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
    the Lord scoffs at them.
    He rebukes them in his anger
    and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
    “I have installed my king
    on Zion, my holy mountain.”

    I will proclaim the LORD’s decree:

    He said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have become your father.
    Ask me,
    and I will make the nations your inheritance,
    the ends of the earth your possession.
    You will break them with a rod of iron;
    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

    Therefore, you kings, be wise;
    be warned, you rulers of the earth.
    Serve the LORD with fear
    and celebrate his rule with trembling.
    Kiss his son, or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
    for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

  12. Society and civilization are a very intricate house of cards built on a wobbly table-always has been, always will be. Difficult to set up,easy to knock down. Think it can't happen here? Let the power go off for a week in any major urban area and see what you have at the end of that week. Such places are just too dependent on outside sources for the things you need in everyday life-and no real backup plan.
