The Eagle has landed

Maid Elizabeth has safely traveled to the Philippines and will spend the next three months catching babies.  It took two full days to traverse the globe, with stops in Seattle, LA, Korea and Manila, but everything went smoothly and she is now sleeping contentedly in Davao City.

She is planning on regularly updating her blog, Scarlet Thread Midwifery, with a lot of pictures and stories of her adventures.  While known as Maid Elizabeth here, she calls herself Joan of Arc on her own blog (I don't even want to discuss the implications of that!).

Thank you to everyone who has helped Maid Elizabeth with this mission trip, whether it was with financial support, prayers or encouragement.  I am truly grateful.

Although I already miss her more than words can say, I am so excited to see how God uses her among the people of the Philippines and how He draws her closer to Himself.

  1. Poor proud mama! How exciting that she is following her dream and continuing her training. I used to want to be a midwife. Did she go with a program? I will go "follow" her new blog!

I have included her mission in my daily prayers. Thank you for letting us know that she has made her passage safely.

  3. That is so exciting. My granddaughter is headed to Kenya next month on a mission to work in an orphanage for 10 days. She is trying to see if she wants to go to Kenya to teach after she graduates from college.

  5. Happy to know she "maid" the trip safely. I wish her well in this endeavor and hope to read all about it over at her blog, with some input here on this one...perhaps? Anyhow, wishing her the best and have no doubt that she will be a great asset to whomever she touches.

  7. I will add Maid Elizabeth to my prayer list. We have three young ladies from our church who also went to Davao for two and three months(one is getting married in August, so she and her sister will only spend two months in Davao). They are from your area, too. I will pray for you, too as I know it must be tough to have your daughter so far away, in a foreign country. God Bless you all.

  8. frankly speaking, with the terrible times and troubles in other countries i find it difficult to understand why anyone would send their children on missions in a foreign land when there are so many needs right here in the usa. even in my own community/city the local churches raise thousands of dollars to send young people to columbia, nicaraqua, and chile while the elderly person just down the street has needs that are not being met with any kindness at all. it just boggles my mind.

  9. Good luck to her. I spent considerable time in the Philippines while I was in the Marine Corps. It was a dangerous place. Maybe she is not going down South. The Muslims don't like Americans much. But then, that was 30 years ago, who knows what it's like now.

  10. Maid Eliz is in G-d's protection and this is HER
CALLING. Multiply her protection by praying for her success and safety.

You don't hang up the mainline on G-d, when he calls and instructs you to go to the Philippines for that calling.

You also don't argue with him. Are you sure, you don't want me to go to Detroit?

Multiply her protection by praying for her success and safety.

  11. Anonymous 5:34pm, how many elderly people do you know who need midwives? Maid Elizabeth is training to be a midwife, not an elder-care volunteer. I know there are many fine young Americans who volunteer to help the elderly right here in the USA. I know this because some of them come knocking on my door occasionally and offer to help me - I'm old. (I turn them down, I'm not THAT old...yet!)

Many people complain about (worthy) issues, but few of those people do anything about the issues they raise. I ask you to do something instead of just complain, Anon 5:34pm. I urge you to work towards getting help to those elderly people. We have become a nation of complainers instead of doers. Isn't it time we took back our national spirit and DID something instead of just complained about what others are doing? Stand up. Speak out. DO SOMETHING! Maid Elizabeth is doing something - which is to be commended, not criticized.
