Princess Dragon Snack

Little Miss Dragon Snack whacked her toe on a chair as she was running through the house the other day.  It was already swelling by the time I got over to her and these pictures were taken the day after.  The swelling is down a bit, but the bruising is growing.  Poor little Dragon Snack!  Perhaps she should start wearing shoes!

  1. Poor Little Miss Dragon Snack, it was not that long ago when she had a nasty sliver in her foot...now this. I truly do feel her pain.

    I am an advocate for some of the old remedies. For example, I LOVE epsom salt. Have you soaked her little dragon foot in warm (warmer is better) water and some epsom salt? It may relieve some of the swelling and speed the dissolution of the bruise. It also feels good!

    Shoes might not be needed if running in the house is curtailed. "No bouncing balls, no throwing things, and no running in the house" - rules from my own childhood. ;)

  2. No, she shouldn't wear shoes. I shouldn't wear shoes. Nobody should wear shoes in the house. She should begin to learn to slow down and pay attention to where the furniture is, or where her feet are. The world is a dangerous place, and she's learning this.
    That's a bad "Owee". Give her a hug from us.

  3. Aw, poor thing. :( I'm new to your blog, but have you ever tried Arnica to keep the bruising down? It comes in a table and a gel and works great. Hope she's feeling better soon! :)

  4. NoCal Gal;
    It is always wonderful to hear from you! I, too, love Epsom salts. Why I didn't think of it I will never know! Thank you for reminding me.

    Sarah;
    Welcome to Paratus Familia! It is always nice to meet a new friend. I haven't tried Arnica, however I have some friends who swear by it. Next time I'm in town, I will pick some up. Thank you for the suggestion.

    I agree that we shouldn't have to wear shoes in the house. I probably wouldn't wear shoes at all if I could get away with it! Dragon Snack is learning that perhaps running in the house is a dangerous pastime! Thanks for your comments.

  6. If within the first 24 hrs. post injury, ice and elevate. With that much bruising, is likely a fractured toe. Not much to do for that other than ice, elevation and an ace wrap (not too tight though) Can she bear weight on the foot?

  7. yep, looks fractured to me. After 22 years as an Xray Tech (that works for an Orthopedic surgeon )you learn to spot them a mile away. Ice / elevate and buddy tape( taping the little toe to the toe next to it to stablize the bone. ) Sometimes wearing an old sneaker with the toes cutout helps too. It helps support the foot like a fracture boot , makes walking easier. may take 3-4 weeks to feel better
