The Benefits of Islam

This morning I read a news article about a Marine father that had been banned from his daughter's school because of a ruckus he'd caused about a school assignment.  Apparently, a history assignment was given requiring the students to list the benefits of Islam.  The father had a visceral reaction to this particular assignment and strongly stated his case with school officials.  The result was the fathers banishment from the school grounds.

My first reaction was disgust but then, I started thinking about it.  Within minutes, I was doing the assignment in my head.  The more I thought, the more benefits I came up with.  Here are a few....

The Benefits of Islam
  1. Economic.  Islam benefits the economic structure in so many ways.  When a terrorist bomb explodes, hundreds of economic entities go work.  Police and Rapid Response Teams flood the area.  Paramedics and EMT's respond.  ER rooms go into overdrive and funeral homes experience a boom in business.  Once the dust has settled, municipalities, insurance companies and contractors go to work.  The economic impact in the area can go on for months.  Reconstruction, heightened security and PSTD treatment can last for years - adding even more of a financial windfall.
  2. Education.  If you want smaller class sizes and streamlined education - Islam is your religion.  When you educate boys only, effectively eliminating roughly 1/2 of your student burden, you have the ability to work closely with each individual student.  Because you only teach a few core subjects - the Koran, Jihad and a few other choice electives, you have the ability to study your subject matter in depth, producing exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable scholars.
  3. Political.  The benefits of Islam in the political arena are myriad.  By doing away with pesky freedoms, both of speech and action, you simplify the political process significantly.  Swift elimination of political opponents, specifically by beheading, streamlines the political process and most often brings about a calming sense of continuity to the voting public.
  4. Military/Defense.  This is one area where Islamic nations really shine.  Their countries benefit immensely from the non-structured yet mandatory implementation of aggressive para-military organizations.  Not only do they recruit from within the borders of their own countries, they effectively recruit members from all over the globe.  With the promise of eternal glory, their fighters are arguably the most dedicated in the world.
  5. Environmental.  Islam is very environmentally conscious.  Rather than developing carbon fuel based guidance and delivery systems for their rockets and bombs, they use the much more environmentally friendly camel and donkey delivery systems.  In some cases, they use simple rocks (completely biodegradable) instead of manufactured munitions in their bid to protect mother nature.  And when using a more sophisticated delivery system (usually in the form of a Toyota pickup or Landcruiser), they make sure to use the most fuel efficient model.  Another aspect of environmentalism that is unique to Islamic nations is their fervent adherence to population control.   In an effort to keep their numbers down, their women are stoned at the first hint of an indiscretion and their children are regularly sacrificed to their cause.  Such a dedicated approach to saving the earth is rarely seen in the modern world.
  6. Social.  The social benefits of Islam are too numerous to mention.  In their quest to reduce envy, covetousness and lust, they have established a proven system of dress and manner that greatly benefits society at large.  Covering their women from head to toe and not allowing them to speak in public has produced a contented, joyful female population.  The men are equally happy, as evidenced by their quiet lives and tender reverence for their families.  All is well in the Islamic world.
This list could go on an on.  How clever of our schools to assign such thought provoking assignments!  Without effective dialog, how will we ever come to understand other cultures?  Score one for a good, ol' fashioned American education!

Would I get a good grade on my paper?

  1. I hope you were able to send it to the Marine father as an example of an excellent report! It would also make a terrific letter to the editor of the town's paper. I sure hope he pulled his daughter from that school and is starting home schooling.
    I give you an A.

  2. I would give you an A+. I only wish it could have been submitted to the teacher, then have an open class discussion on it.
Thank you so much for writing such thoughtful posts!

  3. After prying your tongue from your cheek, I'd love to see you submit this article to some appropriate outlet that would receive massive views. Excellent!

  4. That was great. I would send a copy to the teacher who assigned it.

  5. I am continually amazed and appalled at how a 'tolerant and politically correct' educational system is increasing able to disconnect itself from the realities of both historical and current events. Over and over again we see our 'model system' embrace that which is wrong as right and that which is evil as good, then corrupting the minds of innocents to the detriment of all. I think of the first chapter of Paul's letter to the Romans where he describes those who "professing themselves wise, become fools..." (v.22) and who "have become filled with every every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity..." (v29). We are reaping that which we have sowed when we allowed the true God to be 'expelled' from our schools.

  6. We need to wake up and stop being PC. Our willingness to turn the other cheek or overlook the fact that 99% of terrorism is caused by Islam is going to destroy us. Islam "might" be a religion but it IS a contempible, oppresive and warring political belief system. They will bait and switch demanding tolerance for their "religion" as a mask to their oppresive political agenda. The two are inseperable. The one thing that is so difficult for us as "normal" humans to understand about Islam is this: The radical muslims want to kill you, the moderate muslims want the radical muslims tokill you. We don't get that. We may meet and even befriend a muslim who can be and probably will be polite and friendly and it is hard to believe that he thinks of you as "kafir" to be converted, enslaved or killed. He himself may not be a threat to you but he will unconditionally support those radical muslims that are a threat to you. It is a mandatory part of their religion/political belief system. They depend upon your good will and PC to allow them to destroy us.

  7. You get an A! Well thought out and very truthful if not PC. I do hope you keep posting. I missed your thoughtful posts a lot.

  8. Excellent tongue in cheek! So very true and sad that American schools are even teaching such drivel.

  9. This is one of the best things you've written. It should be forwarded to everyone your readers know. I'm doing so right now.

  10. HAHAHAHAHa! Oh love it! Thanks, thank you. It's so refreshing when people "get it". I give you and A+. However in a facility of higher indoctrination you would be called a racist hater (what race is islam?) and sent to a psych for re-education. Which in turn would potentially rob you of your 2A rights. Ahhh, American dhimmitude.

  11. Actually, I would award you an A for your masterful and subtle use of irony (especially the last paragraph) :-)
It is not in itself a bad idea to have somebody write about the benefits of Islam - it seems to me there are at least some worth discussing (fixed prayer times, importance of family, set of guidelines etc.) - virtually every religion has these, and I'm sure people benefit from them. Besides, not every Muslim is a violent fundamentalist.
However, at the same time there ought to be a discussion on the problems created by Islam/its violent lunatic fringe of fundamentalists.

    1. I am glad for your last two sentences. There are millions of Muslims who don't want to conquer the world through violence, who love their families, are hospitable to outsiders, and who try to do positive things for their communities. Two such men from Afghanistan (and one's sister) looked out for me when I was a student overseas and surrounded by glowering Pakistanis and Palestinians. Only in hindsight did I realize what they had been doing, guarding me. When traveling in other countries I met non-radicalized Muslims who appreciate devoted Christians. They think that the verses of the Koran which call Christians fellow 'people of the book' are more important that the ones which call us polytheists and say to kill us. When people like this get into reading the Koran in Arabic, they are shocked and some even leave their faith and they discover that it is not what they thought it was. Last anecdote- my sister was friends with a Turkish Muslim girl (at the time Turkey was more secular and laid back than it is now) who worked with her at a camp in the NE. Both of them found themselves allied in the shared morality of their faiths against the onslaught of amoral secularism from other staff members who came from permissive EU nations.
We need to know the dangers of radicalism and know how to answer Muslim misunderstandings of our faith, but if we will be salt and light we need to keep the door open, build connections on common grounds and love them as Jesus commanded.

  12. You forgot medical. Fewer medical staff required as women are unimportant and a waste of resources in treating them. They can always pick up a much younger model either by arrangement or from a slave trader!

  13. If not every muslim is a violent fundamentalist, then it's because those few are cowards. The rest are stupid, violent, and low class enough to make up for them.

  14. Enola - you should send this in to survivalblog. com....more people need to read this incredibly, well-written, sarcastic piece. i think it's brilliant and therefore give you an A+. i am sending it out to some friends who have school-aged children. in the event that any of them ever have to write a piece about the benefits of Islam, hopefully you will not mind if they plagiarize your post (just kidding)!

  15. I wish all the PC folks out there who like to stand up for Islam would read the Koran.
It's kind of tough as i found out, Its' really meant to be chanted i was told. I stopped when i got to the part about killing infidels and non believers. Look around and in the U.S. and so many religions can get along. But i really wonder about Islam. I think from the media reports that wherever they end up in any numbers. They just can't get along. Look to France and England as examples. Just a big culture gap.

  16. It was a poorly phrased assignment. understanding other cultures is a worthwhile pursuit. Fundamentalist/Extremists of all religions are a problem where people dehumanize others. What I think you see with extremists is a desperation for hope that their is something more and that this is not all their is. The same way peter poppoff ministries have been able to sell their miracle spring water for the last 20 years this is how islamic recruiters work.

    I give a C for cliche.

    1. Uhhh, and when was the last time any Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Sikh and etc ministry cut someone's head off, self-detonated in a disco or restaurant, hung gay men from cranes or stoned a woman to death?

Get a grip - you're not muslem and therefore they want you converted, paying extortion, or dead. It's that simple.

      Your C is for clueless.

    2. I think you might of missed the point of the post. It is not the ideology that they follow but the sheer desperation of their people, any ideology can be twisted if people are desperate/scared enough. For the promise of a better life either this one or the next people have done a lot. Doesn't mean we shouldn't fight back, just means we should figure out what we should target to stop these acts and just ignore the window dressing.

I would disagree with the statement that their are no recent Christian, Jewish, Sikh, Hindu, etc atrocities; that is inaccurate.

I am a survivalblog.com reader and that is how I found this blog. If you just want pats on the back I'll move on.

  17. I think you might have missed a few things. Example: under Economy you might have mentioned the cost savings wemon having to buy high fashon. berkas come in 3 sizes S, M, and L and usually only two colors Black and grey, no need for designer anything not even shoes. (just sandles) Also while you did touch on undertakers but how about coffins, they would be a little cheaper as they could be shortnes by 8-10 in. (thats about the length of a human head. Also no need for toilet paper (unless of course you have had your Left hand chopped off for stealing). I could go on but you get the idea.

  18. An 'A' I think but I would have given extra credit for adding history to the education mix...by continuing to live as if all the social conventions and movements of the last 1400 years don't exist...it makes the study of history so much less daunting.

  20. Satan must love Islam. That said, Satan must also be fond of the vast majority the Americans who call themselves Christians and their Pastors. They have been at the very least complicit by their silence while their military murdered thousands of innocent people.

The American military has waged unconstitutional war after unconstitutional war on foreign soil for the last 50 years. When was the last time your Pastor preached against this? Our military trigger people have absolutely no idea who is a terrorist and who is innocent. Give me a break. If you doubt me I challenge you to watch the documentary 'Restrepo', if you can stomach the vulgarity of our military in real life. I innocent life is smugly written off as 'collateral damage'.

Of course our military personnel parrot (just like Nuremburg) that they are '"just following orders". Yea right, save that whopper for God.

Offended by my comments? Fine, go ahead and stone me.

  22. The American military has never declared war; you can thank your politicians for that. I will make exception for the atrocities committed against the WWI veterans camped in DC, who were burned out by the likes of McArthur and Patton.
I will lay out the fact that I am the granddaughter of a WWI vet, daughter of US Army retired CSM, sister of a US Army retired WO5 and a SGM, wife of US Army SF MSG, mother of US Army Captain, have a son that was injured in AIT and released from his lifelong dream, as well as a teenaged son who has always wanted to serve and protect his country. I have lived as a US Army dependent for almost all of my 54 years. We love and fear the Lord our God. None think of life as meaningless, ours or theirs.
It must be very easy to sit in your church and judge the actions of others, who have steadfastly served to defend your right to do so, in writing or speech. I support your right to say and write what you did. But you are wrong.
Perhaps you see the callousness that the young may use to temporarily harden themselves to what has been done. They cry at night, get help for those hurt, write to us to ask for toys and paper and pencils to give out. My husband and brother personally risked their civilian lives while working in that big sandbox to help families threatened by evil. They didn't kill the old man that fired the rockets onto the large base in Iraq; they found him and his family, told him what they were doing (they really didn't know) for which they were being given food and "protection" from evil ones to do, they ate with them, bought and brought provisions for them (so they wouldn't have to take it from the evil ones) and continued to make sure the family was protected until relocated.
You really have no idea. I have always valued your opinion and your input, and will continue to do so. I agree the military has been misused. That's why we must all be involved in what our elected officials do. We don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. I don't throw stones, either. But we will disagree. Our military didn't cause this conflict, or any of the ones of the last 50 years.
May God continue to bless you and your family, Montana Guy.

  23. An obvious A,though I am a public teacher, I teach math. I do not have a problem having a student answer an assignment like you did......but I'm also a paramedic firefighter and work with a SWAT team (weird combo, I know) Not all schools are that stupid. I live in a small rural school that still has a little common sense left. Wish education was still about teaching, not politically correct crap.

  27. I've noticed something disturbing lately from our local news stations. When covering area education stories, they go out of their way to find the girls who are wearing a veil in the classroom, cafeteria or on the playground. It is as if they want to push this as the normal scene for our schools. Your final paragraph brought that to mind. Good job on the homework, BTW.
