To Quiet the Dry Bones of Liberty

The written word is a powerful thing.  Words have changed the course of human events.  They have formed nations and destroyed them.   Words have spread tyranny and have been the agents of liberty.  Words have bound men and set men free.  Words are as mighty as a two-edged sword.

Often, I have wondered why I continue to write.  This world, this broken nation, doesn't see what I see, they don't hear what I hear.  Why do I continue shouting into the abyss when no one is listening?   And then I remember.  People do hear.  They do listen.  And the words of liberty and truth, the words of freedom, will live on, long after I am but dry bones.

The words of truth are eternal.  They can't be silenced.  God spoke words of life.  He spoke of man's liberty and man's sinfulness.  He spoke of eternity and salvation.  And in spite of man's best efforts, His Words will not be silenced.  His truth continues to speak through the centuries.  His Word continues to give men liberty and set their souls free.  No matter how many of His books are burned, no matter how many dictators have tried to silence His voice, the truth of His Words continue to be etched in the hearts of men.  Mightier than any sword, His Word continues.

John Wicklif, a pastor and contemporary of Geoffrey Chaucer, spoke against the Pope and the Church in the days before the reformation.  He wrote books and essays claiming that the bishops and priests and even the Pope himself were but men, accountable to law of God, not above it.  He taught that all men, even peasants, had natural rights afforded them by God.  He claimed that rights were not granted by the Pope or the King, but by God himself!  Doctor Wicklif even had the audacity to translate the bible into the people's language (middle English), rather than Latin, which at that time, only the church leaders could read.   Through his writings, he ignited a hunger for truth and knowledge that could not be extinguished.  So persuasive were his teachings that forty years after his death, his bones were dug from their grave and burned in an effort to silence his words.

It was in 1385 that Doctor Wicklif died.  The grass grows over his grave.  Forty-one years pass, pilgrims come from afar to visit the spot where he is buried; they break off pieces of his tombstone, and carry them away as relics.  The monks and friars will have no more of that.  They will not have a man who has been dead nearly half a century keep on preaching if they can prevent it, for the doctor has a great following; half of England, and nearly all of Bohemia, have accepted his teachings.  The Great Council of Constance, has ordered that the doctor's bones shall be dug up and burned; and the monks execute the order.  They cast the ashes into he river, and the river bears them to the sea.  They have got rid of Doctor Wicklif.  Have they?  Not quite!

                                                                  The Story of Liberty
                                                                    Charles C. Coffin

Do not be silenced!  Speak the truth with conviction and courage.   Although your words may cost you your life, the souls of men hang in the balance.  Death cannot silence truth, and your very bones will shout "Liberty"!

  3. In 1885, five hundred years after his bones were burned to silence them, the Protestant Episcopal Divinity School in Toronto (Canada) renamed itself Wycliffe College and in 1899, it became the graduate school of theology at the University of Toronto. The Great Council of Constance failed spectacularly in silencing the ideas. They blew on the wind and where ever they landed, like the seeds, they took root and grew. Never underestimate the power of your words.

    1. For what it's worth: The episcopal church was surreptitiously taken over by lesbians and gays and used to pervert the Episcopal religion. I guess the message is that the battle is never over.

    1. I agree - you say what needs to be said; you are part of a growing movement in this country reminding people of the truth and where we have come from. I am afraid it will be a long but necessary journey & trailblazers are needed to mark the way for those who would come after.

  6. It is the responsibility of the watchman to give warning whether or not their message is heeded. It is the responsibility of the hearer to hear the message, but only if it has been faithfully delivered by the watchman.

So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. (Eze 33:7-9)

  7. We must speak out. Our Founders heard pastors such as Pastor Jonas Clark, of the Church of Lexington. We have pastors who are CEOs of government 501c3 corporations. They pastors dare not speak out against government tyranny for fear of losing their IRS tax indulgences. In Christ’s words, they are hirelings. (John 10: 12-13)

If you can’t find a Liberty Church near you, then homechurch. You do NOT need a brick building or the blessing of government. We are blessed to have a Liberty Church nearby. Recently our pastor recited Pastor Jonas Clark's actual sermon on the one-year anniversary of the Battle of Lexington including and his eyewitness narrative of those events. Wow, what passion and guts! No one but Jonas Clark could give such an accounting, for he was the pastor of those ""embattled farmers"" who stood their ground. Have you ever wondered who fired "the shot heard round the world" that fateful morning of April 19, 1775? Who were those brave men who stood against the best-trained army in the world? Clark's actual sermon is recorded in ‘Battle of Lexington’. It is available for $10 at Amazon. You might want to buy it before the Police State burns it.

They have not gotten rid of Doctor Wicklif. And they are not going to get rid of Rev. Jonas Clark.

  8. Wycliff's bible was burned because it was a faulty translation. The Catholic Church has been in the business of putting the Word of God into the easiest language for people to understand for two millenia now. Don't believe me? Look up the story of St. Cyril. St. Jerome translated the Bible into Latin at the request of Pope Damasus because the common language had changed from Greek to Latin: http://www.americancatholic.org/Messenger/Sep1997/feature2.asp

    1. The Church of Rome cannot establish her false claims that she alone is the preserver of God’s Word and the maintainer of the Truths of the same. Rome is far from being a believer in the Bible as the sole rule of faith and practice.
Her rejection of the Bible as the sole rule of faith and practice has been brought about by the many additions she has made to Holy Scripture.
The command and warning of God is crystal clear that the Bible must not be added to.
Deuteronomy 4:2 "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."
Deuteronomy 12:32 "What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it."
Proverbs 30:6 "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."
Jeremiah 23:28 "He that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully."
Revelation 22:18 "If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book."
Now the Church of Rome has been found out to be a liar and has had added to it the plagues of the Apocalypse – as God stated in Proverbs 30:6 and Revelation 22:18 – by adding to God’s Word.
Rome adds to God’s Word by adding more books to the Canonical Scriptures, known as the Apocryphal Books. These books were never received by the Jewish Church (Romans 3:2); they were never quoted by Christ; they were rejected by the Christian Fathers; and they are self-evidently not inspired. The writer apologises for defects (2 Maccabees 15:39) and one seemingly commands suicide. They are no part of Holy Scripture; yet, they were added into the Canon by the Church of Rome to make up Rome’s Bible.
Rome also adds to the Bible apostolic and ecclesiastical traditions. Oral tradition evolved into written tradition and the unreliability of oral tradition is exposed in John 21:22,23.
Rome also adds that the interpretation of Scripture must have the "unanimous consent of the fathers". Alas the fathers were far from being unanimous. They contradicted themselves and rarely consented. In fact, strange to relate Gregory the Great Bishop of Rome stated that the Bishop who claimed to be the Universal Bishop is the forerunner of the Antichrist (Gregory Reqisto. Epist. 1.b. v11. Ind. Is epis 33 ed Benet Domisitos).
Christ warned against tradition and stated, "Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men" (Matthew 15:3,6,9).
Rome stands out as a self-exposed liar and as the target of the judgments of Almighty God by her deliberate adding to the Holy Scriptures of Truth.
At the end of the 19th century Rome added on to the Scripture the infallibility of the Pope having for years said that the doctrine of the infallibility of the Pope was a "Protestant falsehood" (see Papal Catechism). THE AUTHORITY OF THE BIBLE IS USURPED BY ROMAN CATHOLICISM!

  9. Enola, keep on writing, as Todd said it is the responsibility of the watchman to sound the alarm. Your sounding the alarm for this Nation to wake up, I am, and so are many others. It is what we do. We warn we explain we encourage we help. And why Because of the love of Jesus that is in us. The people who do not heed the warning don't because they choose not to. And as I so often remind those around me, You are the sum total of all your choices. You can blame no one else.

  10. This is my first visit here. It was tagged in the Survival blog I read fairly regularly. I greatly enjoyed the article and find in the comments section much of what I try to tell people here in the Deep South. I assure you people are listening and I believe more and more are waking up. Keep the faith, stay in the fight and be obedient unto death as we are counted as sheep for the slaughter if necessary to win the more unto Jesus Christ. The government may kill us but we shall preach, teach and live lives of holiness up and until the last breath is exhaled.

  11. The reformation was a disaster for Christianity and western culture. We are completely divided now and as a result have little defense against secularism. The idea that every man can interpret the bible for himself has led us to the individualistic society we have now.

  12. Keep writing. After hearing people ask "what can we do?" I started a website with information and links about how to disengage from the system -- live in liberty -- but nobody visits, except the govt spybots who came after there was a link at survivalblog.com. (I'm sure you know how that is.). So I understand the feeling of thinking your words are falling on deaf ears. You have such a strong example in your family. Please know, so many who never write are reading, listening and heeding. Many blessings to all of you!

  13. Even if you don't change any minds (and that's not to say that you don't-- many things that happen go unspoken), your words serve to encourage the believers. Many are the times that, when I'm tired and mad and feel like quitting, I think of you and dig up the grit to persevere.

It's a long and discouraging road, dear one. Do not be defeated.
