Are we Honest Men?

For as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under tyrannical dominion.  It is in truth, not for glory, nor riches, nor honors that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Declaration of Arbroath - 1320

  1. I, dear lady, must quote from a less traditional source, "I'll be cold. I'll be lonely. My bowels will not work properly. But also... I will be clever." ("The Stand" tv miniseries character Judge Richard Farris). We must all strive and succeed in the quest to be "honest men", especially in light of our future troubles.

  3. Sadly there are too many people that are willing to give up their freedom without knowing. When you accept a government check you are giving up your freedom. When we create cars that drive themselves, we are giving up our freedom. When we create robots that are going to replace us in the workforce and eventually the inhabitation of this planet, we are giving up our freedom. I am really sad about what the future holds for my grandkids and great grandkids at the rate that we are going. I don't believe that this world is going to be a pretty place in the not to distant future.

    1. I hope I live long enough to see an intelligent computer-one that's aware of its own existence. That, and an engineered living thing that I could carry on a conversation with. Things will definitely be different in the future, but that's not to say it will be worse. There are already autonomous vehicles-the big hurdles are legal ones now. One way of looking at it-if someone is stone-blind, ralphing drunk, better the car drive itself than to have them behind the wheel.

  4. To quote 2 of my most respected figures from the past:
"Give me liberty or give me death."
"You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands."
    Right on, Enola!

    1. I retract the above statement, Patrick Henry was a Godly man, it was Thomas Paine who was Godless.

  5. While dumbed-down Americans were focused on gadgets and trivia, the clever, patient tyrants brought us 9/11 and their phony war on terror. It took 13 years but now they have finally replaced America with a tyrannical evil Police State. History tells us what always come next.

Our Founders sacrificed so much but it was not appreciated. We squandered freedom. Those who think they are 'honest' will soon get the chance to prove it. Personally, I pray for such strength.

    1. How is it a "phony war on terror?"

    2. OK, let's start with basic math. Explain how you believe 2 planes took down 3 towers on 9/11. Surely your government told you about Building #7.

    3. What do you mean building #7? What are you talking about? Didnt the planes fly into the buildings?

    4. You don't have to be a demolition expert to determine what took down Building 7. Dan Rather got it. Of course the government was quick to silence Rather.

  6. Enola - please understand how much i respect and appreciate your blog. i am not sure where you got the quote from, but it is incorrect. the actual quote of The Declaration of Arbroath was very specific to the English:

"...for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

you can find the actual quote, and the history, from wikipedia here:

i am only writing this because of my Scottish ancestory and the fact that i don't like it when words or quotes are mis-represented.

again, i respect the good information that you provide here, but just want to clarify for anyone who might not know what the declaration was really about.
