SOLD - PENDING FUNDS
A number of months back I mentioned scaling back on the blog - or even discontinuing it altogether. After a lot of consideration, Sir Knight and I have come to the conclusion that something has to give, but it won't be the blog (or the book), but the business - Naturally Cozy.
I began Naturally Cozy (reusable feminine hygiene and incontinence products) 4 years ago with a sewing machine and a dream. Little by little, the orders came in, 1 or 2 at a time, and then by the handful. Soon, my inbox was overflowing with orders and I have seen my little business blossom into a thriving home business, keeping myself and many others busier than we could have ever imagined.
As the years have sped by, we have gotten progressively busier. Due to the increase in business over the past couple of years, my other duties have began to suffer. I'm not doing any of my jobs as well as I would like. I have re-evaluated my priorities and have come to realize that my job as wife and mother comes before any other.
And so, we are selling Naturally Cozy. Well, you've peaked my interest. I already live in a little town with meaningful employment a 50 mile round trip. And I actually can sew....
ReplyDeleteIts really too bad you can't keep it up. In-home businesses are not easy to come by.
Everybody has to do what they think is right for them, but your home business actually produces a product that can actually render you cash money and help support you. I am betting your girls all sew, so if you are in a pinch, they can pitch in. A blog has intanglible value -or not -and it takes a lot of time, and produces little more than an online following where people may or may not decide to purchase your self-published books.
ReplyDeleteAlthough your blog is interesting, there are a whole slough of homesteading, prepping, and self-reliance blogs out there on the world wide web, and other than drawing some attention to your self-published books, it is probably not going to support you.
I think it's a mistake to give up a tangible for an untangible "product". Just as I would rather have real cash money than an electronic notice of "money" in an account. But that's just me. You gotta do what ya gotta do.

As Enola has stated in her statement above, she is going to put her duties as wife and mother first. I understand that so well. I am a wife, mother and grandmother and I enjoy it so much. By the way, I do not know Enola; I'm just giving my two cents about the "tangible versus intangible" products. I certainly would not call the blessing of being a wife and mother an "intangible".

After my husband retired he started a part-time consulting business that has morphed into 40-60 hour work weeks. Kinda not part-time anymore, and he's beginning to wonder what to change so he can do something besides work. That's what happens when you come up with an idea and work hard.
ReplyDeleteGood for you getting your business off the ground! Not an easy task at all. I pray you find the right buyer very soon. I've eyed your tea cozies more than once, but I knit (a lot) and can't justify buying one when I can easily make one. But yours are so nice.

ReplyDeleteI am proud of your decision to give up the business in favor of mothering and "wife-ing". There will be other times for businesses but only NOW for raising those children. Your priorities and your heart are definitely in the right place. Whatever else is available to fill your time... your husband and children come first. It is right to give them what they need first.
I made the same decisions for my husband and five children and have Never regretted it. We are smart and capable. Don't our children and husbands deserve first benefit of all that we can give?

Everyone, and I mean everyone call your respective senators and tell them to vote "NO" on thease three pieces of legislation.
We won a big battle last week in the senate, lets keep the pressure up. Our republic is crumbling, at least try, try to keep it from collasping into more of a socailist, welfare, police state.
I already contacted my senators offices.
Oh my gosh! I have been reading your blog night and day! I can't stop! You have a gift and of course, the topics you cover are very interesting to me! I wish I could come stay with you and your family to see what it was like living off grid, homeschooling children, and the results of teaching your children the value of hard work! I wish I could meet them (your children) to see what kind of people they are becoming! I can only imagine that they are wonderful! I have been considering homeschooling but have some hangs ups over it. I love my children fiercely as any mother does and want to teach them about the things that matter most! I have a personal question for you, but if it's too personal, I understand if you do not answer. What religion are you? I am Mormon. I'm pretty sure that you aren't but was just curious as to which church you belong. I've seen you mention that you wear long dresses out and just was curious! :) I think your belief in God is beautiful and I love that I can come to your blog and feel uplifted! I wish there were more people in the world like you! If we were all as strong and as kind as you seem to be, the world would be a better place! Depending on how things work out, I wanted to point out an option I have heard from Dave Ramsey - if your small business is growing faster than you can handle, one of the drivers of that demand is that you are priced low or relatively low in the market. One way to handle this is to raise your prices incrementally, until you reach a balance point where the time committment to the business works for your lifestyle. You will lose customers, but your margins are going up while time committment goes down.
