We are a nation seeking liberty. But not the liberty that you would think. Although we will tell you that we are freedom loving, ruggedly independent, hard working, pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps kind of folks, nothing could be further from the truth. We are a nation of mere peasants, offering obeisance to the king in exchange for scraps from his table.
Oh, we seek liberty, but not the liberty to be free from the constraints of tyranny. We seek the liberty to collect regular welfare payments, state provided health care and housing assistance. We scream foul about not being part of the "1%" while refusing to rouse ourselves from in front of the television long enough to hold down a job. We bellyache and complain about government spending and frivolous excess, while we mortgage our souls for new cars and designer handbags.
It is easy to look at our leaders and blame the mess that is our nation on them. But they are nothing more than a microcosm of "we the people". We are an undisciplined, self-indulgent generation who demands to have it's cake and eat it, too. We hold our government to a standard that we do not expect of ourselves.
This cannot be. The only way to right a nation is to right its people. The responsibility for this nation is yours. And it's mine. If we intend to become slaves, we are well on our way. When we give up the liberty of maintaining our own employment or paying our own debt and instead rely on the "king" to provide for us, we have moved from the realm of freeman to the realm of slave. When we accept "benefits" and "assistance" from the state, we give the state authority over our person. And that authority comes with too high a price.
We ought to be a nation seeking liberty. But we need to be seeking the liberty to make our own way, make our own mistakes and work through our own consequences. If we expect our leaders to guide this country with wisdom and discipline then we need to live our lives with wisdom and discipline. And then, perhaps, we can begin to heal a Nation Undone.
This is all so true. But the truths of today is to many are "happy " to be taken care of and find no reason to exert oneself to better your circumstances. Its to easy to get help.

It must be recognized that it is the Christian’s duty—whether he eats, or drinks, or whatsoever he may do—to do all to the glory of God. When man’s duty is reduced from divine principles to human rules, it is falsified because it is reduced. The Pharisees of old multiplied rules in an effort to cover the whole of life, but they did not even come close to the holiness of Christ, who rejected their rules in favor of the law of God (Mark 7:1-13). Suppose that the purpose was to gain personal fame and fortune rather than to serve God. Suppose that one played the piano only to make money and not to serve God. Then it would be wrong, not because it is a sin to play the piano, but because it is a sin to make it the chief end of one’s life, or even to do it only as a means of making money without seeking to glorify him.
The truth is that when the law of God is rightly observed by a believer, it will prove much more demanding and will be much more stringent than the rules of men. But above all, such a man will be preserved from the age-old ruin of the Pharisees who thought that they were keepers of the law when they were really only keeping a few relatively easy rules. The making of rules by men deceives the heart because it reduces the breadth and depth of the Christian’s duty to God.

Im doing everything I can on several different fronts including e-mail blasts to everyone I know so they can contact their representatives in the senate about bills that need to go away to helping friends and neighbors out. In the past week I talked with "Oil Field worker" who is one of my best friends. He's getting $20.000 in from profit sharing from a former employer. I recommended to him that he pay off one of his two trucks (he owes on both vehicles) pay the medical bills from his first daughters birth and pay off a few other bills. That will leave him with money for another rifle, food storage from the Mormon Cannery and maybe some silver too. He's starting to get onboard with the preparedness stuff.
By the way, I saw "oil field workers" wonderful three and half year old daughter in a pink polk dot coat with oversize pink framed sunglasses with dark lenses. I got looking at her and thought a good nickname for her would be "Ladybug' Every time I go to "oil field workers" house. Ladybug' wants me to push her around in her big plastic toy car. She has a three month old baby sister that I nicknamed "BedBug" who is doing just fine and making all kinds of cooing noises.

ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just my little corner of the 'verse here, but things aren't quite that bleak-a fair percentage of the people I know are self-employed (the internet is a blessing for the really small business types) or have jobs. A few distant relatives are "welfare royalty", but I don't have anything to do with them, because they'll steal anything that's not bolted down tight and Loctite put on the bolt threads. Much of what you say is no doubt true,but there are exceptions.

I got one whopper of a story for you guys.....
After work I had to hit walmart. Its been rainy and cold for the past day of so but I was running low on tv dinners. I was checking the ammo for the heck of it knowing there was no ammo and I saw some guy who was about 28 with his wife, a three year old boy and a really, really small baby.
We started to talk about the ammo shortage etc, then the talk got to work and this guy said he was a welder and just moved down from Virginia looking for work in the oil field. After some guy talk about welding and stuff I asked him if he had phone number so maybe I could talk to a few friends to help find him a job. He said he and his family were living on the beach on Padre Island...I said what, you got a new born and your living on the island in your SUV???
He said it got better, his wife went into labor yesterday and last night (about 24 hours ago) she delivered thier newborn on the beach in a tent on Padre Island (Yeah you read that right) this guy was there to "catch the baby" and did all the stuff that I guess your supposed to do when "catching a baby' He described a few details as my jaw dropped on the floor of walmart in front of an empty ammo case....The dad went on and explained how he had the infant wrapped up in some of his clothes and some tourist saw what was going on and gave him and his wife some extra baby clothes that there baby out grew.
I was shocked at first, and then thought of all the kids that have been delivered on wagon trains going out west in the 19th century, babies born in German concentration camps and the Warsaw ghetto and everywhere else in human history (at least this kid was born on the beach, not a bad spot)
Mom was up walking around and the baby looked ok (Like' I would know what for anyway) What am I going to do, rat on them to the CPS. Hell' no. I would not do that. All the dad wanted was a job as a welder.
Look' Im a lousy Christian, but I suddenly had this weird feeling that meeting this guy and his family was not just fate or blind luck, theres something going on here. I took down Dads contact information, came home and started to make phone calls to work (no welders needed) I called (oil field worker) who was out in the Eagle ford working. I told him the story, he gave me a few names and a list of welding shops that may be hiring. Im going to do what I can do help this family out.
I e-mailed dad (hopefully there is wi-fi where he is at tonight) God willing I can help dad find a job and he can get his family into a rent house or an apartment real soon. I pray that the infant will be ok. I cant remember if its a boy or a girl??
This is the craziest thing I have seen in awhile. I would rather go back to the Persian Gulf and be shot at than deliver a baby. I dont know how dad did it???

DeleteProvidence is the word we use at our home. You write that you are a lousy Christian, but let me say this: it's not what you say or quote, it's what you do and live. That is why so many of us cling to Enola's world through her blog: she and her family LIVE the word. You have always shared stories that demonstrate your interest and care for your fellow man(woman and child). This is another one and it clearly states to me that you follow the basic tenets of Christianity: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
Both Elijah and John the Baptist were "rough" men from what I can tell. Survivalists. I have many times had heartbreak because someone I thought would make the best daddy or mommy was without a child. God has a plan for all and He knows what is best. As rough as times are and will be, He knows many need uncles and aunts, even if they aren't by blood.
I think the young couple followed God's plan. A birth on a beach sounds nice in many respects. Mary gave birth in a stable and laid Jesus in the manger. God was there and He was with this couple. A dad showed his mettle and helped his wife with the greatest gift, and she blessed him with a child. Such a miracle!
Your steps crossed theirs for a reason, if for nothing else, this couple has met someone in their new home and have seen the face of Jesus in action though you.
Bless you, captain, and thank you ever so much for sharing this story. Got to go dry my eyes and wipe my face off.

wow! I don't know what to say. I dont mean to sound rude or ungrateful or anything of the sort, but I dont feel as if I should be "bleesed" or anything of the sort. I was just at the right time and right place so maybe God used me as a tool somehow or something to help that family out.
When they (the family) drove off, they were in a 10 year old Ford Explorer with all their stuff piled on the roof rack and stacked up in the back behind the back seat.
I went home to my heated house with expensive furniture, artwork and other materielistic stuff that has no meaning to me now. It did not occur to me to after they left that they could take the extra bedroom in my house. Even If did that, I have to move around all the guns, ammmo, knives, axes, machetes, tools, drills, workbenches, gun tools, chemicals for cleaning and reparing guns, motor oil, and other guy stuff packed all around my house in strategic locations. I can stuff my gunsafe with all this stuff only so far. (My house is now like the apartment in the 2004 version of The Punisher movie)
and you wonder why im still single....
Back to the point I was making, I was struck by the fact that despite the wealth I have that that Dad is a wealthier man than I will ever be. He has a loving wife, a three year old and a beautiful new born baby (That dude's got it made) Dad has a long hard struggle ahead of him, but if his wife is truly dedicated' he will be just fine. I talked to some people at work to no avail. I will contact dad and give him a few suggestions that "oil field worker" gave me for Dad to get a welding job. Im still working on all this. I also working on finding low cost housing for that family somehow also.
Sidetracksusie, you said Enola and her family live the word. I can't keep up with that, cant evan get near it. Im just an old' sheep dog that steals the nieghbors chickens, sucks down the eggs and leaves my calling card on the nieghbors porch in the middle of the night. I do however will watch out for my flock and will attack the wolves head on without any fear.
I just tell God he's the boss. I will do what he wants me to do to the best of my ability.

ReplyDeleteAnonymous, thinking of moving to Wyoming - WELCOME! The only thing we truly wish we had here was a group of fellow believers in Christ, the Constitution, and Freedom to share with - haven't found the genuinely dedicated yet here in central Wyoming.
I've spoken with several people who have visited/lived in Wyoming, and all of them loved it, and regretted leaving if they'd moved(mostly due to being transferred by their job). In looking around on the Intertubes, land prices don't seem too bad for the most part..I'm not sure about the job situation though..being over 40 makes job hunting a little more difficult.

I took the Stag 3G rifle out today and was getting groupings on the bullseye at 100 yards. The bullseye is an orange dot about one inch in diameter in a seven inch circle. I had a two shot group and a three shot group on the bullseye. I would have done better but there was a lot wind coming off the Gulf of Mexico (all shots were in the seven inch circle)
I credit the E.O. Tech 552 for this. Im nearsighted so the E.O. Tech is a really big help. if I get a magnifier, I can really inprove my shooting at range. I used standard 55 grain, 5.56 mmn ammo today, nothing exotic.
There are some of us who have been guided by God's providence to places outside the Redoubt. We tried the door to the Redoubt and for us the answer was "no." But wonderful provision opened doors for us elsewhere, with a place to live, family and a good church nearby. Please keep us in your prayers. We have missions and purposes where we are. It scares me somewhat to be where I am, but it is when I feel that fear and pray about it that I know most surely that I am where He put me.
ReplyDeleteCaptain crunch, there is an enormous difference between knowing the contents of the bible and being a Christian. We are defined in gods gaze by our actions and not just by our attendance at church. IMHO I would say you are more of a Christian than many a pastor I have known, so don't beat yourself up over it. A helping hand by a kind heart is probably closer to the teachings of our lord than many realise. That and the fact that you see your own imperfections and try to overcome them.

I cant remember it in detail but she said something along the lines of "no matter how hard she tried or how well she got it right, "she would always fail, pick herself up, and try again"
At first I thought, well thats a defeatist attitude? and I did not understand Enola's logic. Now I understand her logic more and it makes sense. (see that Enola' you done tought me something and I remembered)
Thats why I beat myself up. I am a flawed human being. I have started fights in bars, broke some of the ten commandments (more than once) I did some really crazy things that plumb wore out any guardian angels that I may have had, like many, many years ago I was chased by the police in one town for drag racing and I out ran and out smarted the police and got away???
After doing certain things in life for so many years and not winding up in jail or dead. Im really think God's keeping me around for something, what I dont know. What I can do is somehow repay the favor and at least try to make the world around me a better place. No matter how well I do, Its not enough.
It kinda reminds me of that famous line in the Bible, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone"

I can say that spending time as a "the guy your mother warned you about" makes me appricate certain things in life that many others may take for granted. (Going back to Star Wars' I was part of the Dark Side of the Force)
There was only one perfect person to ever set foot on Earth and that was 2000 years ago or so. I can follow his teachings as best as I can, but I will never get it right.
Saul of Tarsus did far worse. He turned out alright in the end! Life is always a struggle to do the right thing, especially when you little to start with! My grandmother once asked me is it better to be a rich man who helps many or a poor man who helps only one? The answer it doesn't matter, what matters is that you help even when it doesn't work out.

During "The Great Ammo Drought of 2013" I stood in lines to get ammo early in the mornings and made freinds with many shooters. I met a group of woman shooters that need 9 mm. I sell back the 9 mm at cost to them when I can find it and they get me 22 long and .223/5.56 at cost (yeah' I got extra ammo, but Im saving it for longterm investment)
There is lots of re-selling for double and triple what the ammo costs.
I think its really neat that women are empowering themselves so they wont be victims. If millions, and millions of American women got firearms training, and legelly carried guns, we would live in a much safer society (and a more polite one too) Maybe more men would open doors for woman again and tip thier hats to them and say "Yes mam" like they are supposed too. Men would say to each other' You never know, she could be armed, better be polite to her.

I have some very sad news, You guys know that family I was trying to help out that the baby born on the beach last week. I tried in vain to e-mail the dad and call the dad, but his cell phone was out.
Then I get on the news online to check the weather in South Texas area and this is the news story I found.

My more liberaterian friends wonder why I dont like the idea of decriminalization of marijuania in Texas. This what this drug abuse leads too.
I will say more prayers for those children. I just hope they can recover and never remember what they went through and that the baby recovers fully and lives a normal life.
What I wrote about your wishes to help the couple being Christian in action still stands. You wanted to help them, you spoke with them and did not act like they didn't exist. You tried to find work for the husband/father. That you did not succeed is not necessarily a bad thing, it is just what happened. If you had, it would not have stopped their drug use and even having a house and money would probably not made the parents take better care of their children. They would have just bought more drugs. You did not know this, so don't blame yourself in anyway.

I once had an Air Force wife called me about a house we had for sale. They were living in a tent in MO, near Whiteman AF base and winter was coming. I guess my experiences colored my opinion.
You will find that you can not save everyone, especially those who are doing their best to hurt themselves by taking drugs. Yes, they are throwing away God's gifts and it pains us to see it. That is also why so many never get involved...because it hurts us, too.
A LEO friend of ours called us the first weekend after marijuana became legal in WA. On the first day, he had accompanied CPS to THREE different homes to check on why the parents didn't come and pick up their kids after school as was their usual routine. Their children had stood outside the school for a couple hours waiting. The parents were stoned out of their minds, the public subsidized housing was trashed and the kids ended up in temporary foster care. Three families that don't have a clue of the blessings they have received. He was so sad. He can not wait to retire and get away from this.
You did what you could and it was right. Prayer takes many forms. Honest conversations with God are just as valid as formal recited prayers. We can pray the children recover and are placed with loving relatives and that the parents free themselves of the demon of drugs.

my heart is broken because of all this. I still remember the face of that new born baby girl in Walmart last week. I have seen stuff like this on the news and never been affected by it because I never met "parents" that were drug users. I have seen many, many meth addicts in their 30's and 40's, I don't recall seeing younger parents that were addicts.
I have also seen some pretty bad things in life and in the military. I was always able compartmentalize things and be professional. Evan when I was in East Africa, the poverty and refugees there did not really effect me because I did not know anybody there.
This was different because I met this family and that baby reminded me of "oil field workers" daughters and that I think is what got me.
All I can do is pray that those kids and that baby girl will be ok....
Fat poor people tend to rely on high-carb high-fat diets, usually based on ethnic cuisines developed by people who had to work hard on the cheapest food they could get. The point, however, stand. There is affordable/cheap food even free food sufficient that these children need never have starved. They could easily have gone to a food pantry, to churches, all sorts of places will gladly feed the needy. The mom and kids clearly qualify for WIC. I noticed in the second link that the mother refused "charity" when they very much needed it. Pride or denial? It is so sad.

I had an extreamly long day yesterday beginning with being no.2 in line to get ammo and being rewarded with a 1000 round case of Federal 55 Grain, .223 for $450.00 (there were only five cases)
I have been offered upwards of $750.00 for this case. I'm asking opinions on should I part with it (for a handsome profit) or keep it? Anybody got any idea's, (Sidetracksusie, ask Senior, he's a smart guy)

Wal-Mart-and other stores-here sometimes place limits on ammo purchases. It flies off skids as fast as they can get it in stock. Sounds like a good profit. I suspect this ammo shortage will be short-lived. I'd be tempted to sell it, or at least part of it.
DeleteI scored the same on Monday, but I had to pay $600. The store had not received any .223 for MONTHS and they got two boxes in, the first was bought by a man standing there when it arrived. I was there to p/u wadcutter pellets for son's 4H shooting sports (what kids shoot when there is no .22) and asked about it. At first the guy behind the counter didn't offer it to me, then he seemed to "remember". I think what he really remembered was my husband and our past purchases. We are not "remarkable" people, which I highly desire to maintain. As someone wrote about Wyoming, "they haven't found the genuinely dedicated in Wyoming"...well, we're here but we are all about OPSEC.
DeleteThe ammo drought is bad. It may get worse. I am going shooting this weekend and believe me, it won't be amount I would like to play with. Every piece of brass will be recovered. But to not sight in rifles and to not practice would be senseless.
I can't advise you on what to do. DH and I are now gauging everything vs. fiat currency. If you are going to flip the ammo and get a different tangible or pay down a debt with the proceeds (and profit) then I would say go for it. It is kind of pessimistic to write that, isn't it? I remember just planning for retirement and it was money we needed, not food storage, gardening supplies, animal feed, fencing, canning jars and lids, supplies to make personal care items with, ammo, back up shooting sticks, medical supplies, extra clothes, solar panels....some of which we know we don't HAVE to have, but we are balancing owning them vs. having green paper in our pocket.
We have also decided that we need to "outfit" a "younger someone" who may end up at our place without theirs who can help in times of need. Many hands make the work light, so to speak. We can not stay awake 24/7 and our adult children may get there without their "outfit" due to leaving from somewhere else than home, martial law, etc. DH told me on Sunday that this outfitting was high on our list. The ammo showed up on Monday. We consider this divine providence. Do you have someone you might be counting on in a pinch that is not equipped to properly help you? Just something to consider. In an ideal world, we could count on that person making this a priority but so many won't think about it until it's too late.

Weed(or any other drug) is bad-alcohol is good tends to be the mentality of a lot of folks. Many of my relatives have used ordinarly ethanol to destroy their lives(and their children's as well) as effectively as they could with any other chemical..so what's the big difference? The fault doesn't lie with access to these chemicals, but with the individual..

ReplyDeleteThis is why the Libertarian party is not going to gain a real foothold in this country. They won't let the drug use go, it is touted as a victimless crime.

DeleteThis is good news, despite the baby still being in the NICU. I have to be thankful for their improvement and for the fact that the parents DID bring the baby to the hospital.
As far as malnourishment, I have an ex-SIL who was a highly paid pharmacist. Her son was diagnosed as malnourished and he was taken to the ER THREE times for accidental ingestion of medication. He survived, mom grew in her ability to take care of him and his younger sister, too, and both are in college, one in pre-med. That no one thought to take these kids away from their inept mother was astounding but I think it was because mom was some kind of clean cut professional.
I don't think giving birth on the beach is a crime, either. Maybe not what everyone wants for themselves, but it's not a crime, IMO. Drugs are the problem, not the birth location, but the article sure slants toward the birth on the beach.

Its nice knowing that modern medicine has a monopoly on births in first world nations. Just think' what would the first world come too if every "healthy couple" decided to rent a midwife and hang out on beach and have a kid'
