To Whom Will You Run?

When our daughter, Elizabeth, was little, she experienced a particularly defining moment.  My husband and I lived in Bellevue, Washington at the time and had decided to spend an afternoon window shopping at a few local malls.  It just so happened that Easter was right around the corner and when we entered the first mall, the Easter Bunny greeted us at the door.  Elizabeth was not amused.  Not yet two, she was very leery of a huge bunny, dressed in a waistcoat and carrying a gigantic basket full of eggs.  She was convinced there was something rather sinister in his expression and no matter where she went, there was that bunny, staring at her with his Joker-like smile and motioning for her to come nearer.

As we wandered, Elizabeth clung to my hand, never taking her eye off that suspicious herald of spring.  We strolled leisurely through store after store, Elizabeth settling into an uneasy pace.  After quitting the mall with the unholy bunny, we drove to another mall a few miles away.  The minute we walked through the door, I knew there was going to be trouble.  You guessed it - another bunny.  With tears rolling down her face, I scooped Elizabeth into my arms to shield her from her nemesis.  Finally, she settled down and I put her down to walk on her own.  Laughing at something or other, we rounded a corner and ran headlong into the most massive, colorful Easter Bunny we had ever seen.  A look of terror crossed Elizabeth's face, her legs pumping up and down with adrenaline.  When she finally caught traction, she ran, as fast as she could, straight past me and directly into the outstretched arms of her daddy.  The first bunny had distressed her and she held tight to my hand.  The second had horrified her and she clung to me.  The third bunny pushed her over the edge.  She was convinced that the 6 1/2 foot tall, plaid vest wearing, Joker-faced rabbit was stalking her, with less than honorable intentions - and she was terrified. And when she felt she was truly in danger, she ran right past me and to the one she knew could protect her - her father.

Our country is in trouble.  At first, we were distressed.  Then we were horrified.  Now, we have reason to be truly terrified.  But we are missing the bigger picture.  We are under the impression that our enemy is the Government.  Or our neighbors.  Or the Socialists...Communists....Marxists.  However, our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against powers and principalities.  God is sovereign and He alone sets kings on their thrones.  Even bad kings.  He alone deposes kings.  The question isn't really "What is the state of our Nation?".  The question is "What is the state of our Souls?"  This is the telling moment.  Who/what will you run to?  Will you run to the state?  Will you run to the hills?  Will you rely on your food/guns/ammo/skills etc....Those are all fine things to run to and rely on when you are scared or distressed, but what about when you are truly terrified?  That is when you run to your Father.  And your Father will be there with arms outstretched.  God is calling His children.  Sometimes His children are foolhardy and stubborn, perhaps even stiff-necked.  We get complacent and preoccupied and it takes something truly terrifying to get our attention.  This is it guys.  Nations will rise and nations will fall, but the Kingdom of God is eternal - and that is where we need to put our trust.

We need to be able to see the forest through the trees.  The trees are the dominoes of a falling nation.  The forest is the saving love of a Father who cares far more for the State of your Soul than he does for the State of your Nation.

To whom will you run?

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.   Ephesians 6:12

  4. Enola,

    I got nowhere to run, nor anyone to run to, except to God. Can't depend on anyone else or anything else, cant rely on leaders. I got no family, and freinds of mine have thier own have families to worry about so its best I keep my distance.

    Mr. Easter Bunner does not know that I actually like a good life threatening adrenaline rush. Better than a cup of coffee. I half tempted right now to buy a Harley (motorcycle) I will not though, better to be really frugal right now. I could buy a M82A1 Barret .50 rifle (that would mess with Mr. Bunny Rabbits head) but again, I can make one heck of house payment with $15000 or by some land somewhere.

    Oh' Mr Bunny Rabbit, I have an M1A rifle. Lets play a new game called "vaporize the bunny"

    Enola, a little off topic. Over at thefieldlab.blogspot there are some pictures of a tradional adobe ranch house (off the grid) John Wells the owner of the field lab took some good pics. This area is the region that "Joe Nodody" wrote about in his books. I grew up in this kinda enviroment (The Southwestern Desert) and its more familiar and normal to me than any other enviroment I have ever lived in. I still may live in the American Redoubt at some point, but I can envision spending my last days sitting up on a large rock warming my old bones in the hot desert morning sun like an old rattlesnake.

  5. Totally agree. And would suggest that all send a note to the White House advising them of our daily prayers concerning them. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.

    Walking Dead season three just keeps getting better. I had to chime in about that. The latest is 'Zombie Jaw removal" via combat boot. Also on a recent season three episode (spoiler here) two survivors talk about how they made fun of a "Survivalist Nieghbor" who had a bunker in his backyard. When the zombie apocalypse happens, the "two survivors" hole up in the backyard bunker for the first year and are glad their neighbor was a survivalist (of course the survalist becomes zombie himself)

    We had another a bad trucking accident out near Carrizo Springs, Texas involving a crude oil truck. A crude oil hauler (tanker truck) ran into a full grown "Jackolope" and things did not go to well (for the tanker truck) The truck driver was not hurt and took pictures of what he thought was a dead "Jackalope" with a full 13 point rack (it would have been a 14 point except one the antlers broke off into the radiator, went through the radiator and into the front cover of the Cummins diesel engine causing serious damage to the gear assembly and harmonic balancer)

    Whats really amazing is after the truck driver took pictures of the "jackalope" which he thougt was dead, the "Jack" got up and then hopped off into the night leaving behind the antler in the engine.

    We towed the truck in yesterday.

    The larger Jackalopes are starting to become a problem down here in South Texas with their eating all the deer and feral hogs. The high protien diet is making them really, really big and aggressive.

    I reread the story of your daughter Enola with the innate fear of Easter bunny's. She would be 'horrified' if she ever saw a fully grown, aggressive "Jackalope"
    Just take a Wolverine, pump it up full of adrenaline, crack cocaine, cross it with a "tasmainian devil" and give it a full rack of antlers you will have a fully battle ready Texas Jackalope.

    Another thing too, The Jackalope rutting season. It begins in the heat of the summer in July and ends in mid-September. Some National Geographic Channel sent a bunch of British videographers down here to try and film the rutting season and some of them died in the Texas heat and the others were killed and were a' "devoured" by a pack of Jackalopes.

    (thease were experience videograghers from Afghanistan and the Sahara desert and the Gobi Deserts)

    The Brit's aint been back since. (I wish Peirs Morgon would do the same)

    Now I heard that Governor Perry and Ted Nugent are forming a "Jackalope Task Force" to hunt down and kill the larger more aggressive jacks manned by well armed "Texas Rangers" with 338 Lapua and .50 cal rifles.

    When its comes to hunting jacks there is no limit, no tags, and its open season year round on jacks. You can hunt jacks from Helicopters, Hilicoptor Gunships (Im sure I can get Master Hand Grenade a job on a Texas Ranger Jackalope Hunting Gunship Helicoptor as a door gunner), you can use Artillery, and Battleships (if you can squeeze one up the Rio Grande river and not run illegal aliens over in the water) That part is illegal, we cant defend our southern border, thats another story.

    I will keep everyone informed about the Jackalope problem down here in the Texas redoubt.

  13. Ah so true. This is what I read this morning. It may have been written to Israel but I think it is pertinent to us as well.

    Hosea 6: 1-3
    “Come, let us return to the Lord.
    He has torn us to pieces
    but he will heal us;
    he has injured us
    but he will bind up our wounds.
    2 After two days he will revive us;
    on the third day he will restore us,
    that we may live in his presence.
    3 Let us acknowledge the Lord;
    let us press on to acknowledge him.
    As surely as the sun rises,
    he will appear;
    he will come to us like the winter rains,
    like the spring rains that water the earth.”
